Rabana // රබාන // றபான்
A traditional circular one-sided frame drum. The large bench-mounted banku rabana is warmed over hot embers and played communally by women singing rhythmic folk verses (raban pada) during the New Year.
Origin
Brought to Sri Lanka via the Malay community, derived from the Malay frame drum rebana (ultimately tracing to Arabic Rabbana).
